The Art of Caribbean Gecko | Building with Intention

Building anything requires work, investment, time, and grit. Creating an ecommerce store in the 2020s adds another challenge altogether. It often feels like adding one more drop to an already full ocean.
The art of Caribbean Gecko is that it exists in what startups call cockroach mode. Default alive. It is a term used in tech, but it applies here just as well. I saw a gap in the market for minimal gear for the Caribbean diaspora. Most existing options are loud and colorful, which works for some people, but not for everyone. So we created a small place on the internet that stays active, maintained, and patient, gradually accruing value as visits and purchases grow over time.
I would not tell my younger self to build another ecommerce clothing brand. In fact, that is not what we are trying to do here. There is always more behind what we build. The operations behind Caribbean Gecko are run by my sister, Yuri. We have started many businesses together, from an electronics ecommerce store to a daycare, all during our college years. The same is true with my friend Jhoel, who leads design. We built a mobile game studio after the first programming class we took together. Our goal has always been the same: to help people access things that are otherwise difficult to find. We see a need, and we try to fill it.
The art of Gecko is minimal, with a premium feel. Most designs live on the front of the shirt, and we intentionally limit the use of the back or other areas. Each piece is meant to feel like a logo you would wear on organizational or team merchandise. At the moment, most designs are black and white. Over time, we plan to introduce color contrast in subtle, complementary ways that are not overly bright. The goal is for these pieces to be versatile, something you could wear casually or even under a blazer to dress it up slightly. Everything we put out is intentional, not assembled quickly at scale like what you might find elsewhere.
We started with Comfort Colors tees and may continue to offer them in the future. The reality is that they are significantly more expensive to produce, and customer feedback showed strong satisfaction with Gildan at a more accessible price point. We listened and adjusted. Sweatshirts are different, with fewer material options available, so those remain Comfort Colors. Overall, we are happy with the quality we provide, and we are grateful that our customers feel the same.
To our family, friends, and customers who have supported Caribbean Gecko over the past few months, thank you sincerely. If you are new here, we invite you to explore and order knowing that this is a real, US based business, built carefully and with intention.
